Who is Gen. Lassy Mbouity?

He is a staunch critic of President Sassou Ngueso’s regime and how it manages the country of 6.6million people.

Mbouity was a candidate of Socialist Party in the March 2026 Presidential elections won by Ngueso with 94.90%.

Martial Mbourangon Pa’nucci, the party’s spokesperson said, “we are convinced that the regime in Brazzaville is behind all of this. This is not the first time.”

“The people who came to his home were masked, armed, and in an unmarked vehicle. That is why we are calling it a kidnapping,” said Mbourangon.

Mbourangon said that the party intends to continue its mobilization efforts. These will involve both socialists and the Congolese population, including its diaspora.

Opposition parties in the country issued a joint statement on Thursday condemning the kidnap of Mbouity and demanded for his immediate release.

The president of the Congolese Social Democratic Party, Clément Mierassa, denounced the abduction describing it as “a cowardly act.”

According to him, this kidnapping is part of “a worrying escalation of terror, intimidation, and systematic human rights violations in the Republic of Congo.”

However, Ngueso’s government has not responded to Mbouity’s declaration of war.
