Far away from the frontline, Kabila’s PPRD political party has been banned by the Kinshasa government.
Activities for the PPRD party including eleven other parties have been banned across the country according to an official message addressed to provincial governors.
The Deputy Prime Minister instructed provincial governors to take, “without delay,” the necessary steps to ensure “flawless implementation” of this measure within their respective jurisdictions. He also asked them to acknowledge receipt and report back.
Kabila who has been appointed to lead a new rebel group FRN is determined to topple Felix Tshisekedi’s regime in Kinshasa.
Early Friday morning, fighting broke out between FRN rebels and the government troops in Kibati, in the Luberike area (Walikale territory), North Kivu. Heavy and light weapons fire was heard as early as 5:00 a.m.
The rebels have been in control of Kibati for the past two years. Government troops want to retake Kibati due to its strategic location.
The movements of combatants and military operations observed in recent days in the region are fueling concerns about a possible escalation of hostilities along the roads connecting Masisi and Walikale territories.
