A dubious situation is gradually emerging in the government of President Felix Tshisekedi.

Mumours, silent panic and a growing air of uncertainty has enveloped the capital Kinshasa.

Since former president Joseph Kabila got appointed days ago to lead a new rebel movement the Front for Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), Tshisekedi regime has begun feeling the ripple effect of a former president returning to the bush.

Kabila is aligned with M23 and wants to march on the capital, Kinshasa and dislodge Tshisekedi he accuses of presiding over the state as though a clan leader.

Regime critics argue that Tshisekedi fears that most of senior security officials may defect and join Kabila. Most of the senior security officials got their ranks promotions during the 18-year era of Kabila rule.

President Tshisekedi on October 15th ultimately issued a directive banning government officials and the president’s office from making any contact with the Belgian Embassy in Kinshasa.

“Stay calm and avoid traveling in haste. The situation is under control and will continue to be,” Governor of Kinshasa, Daniel Bumba said in lingala, calling upon residents to remain calm and urging them not to give in to panic.

Meanwhile, the Defence Minister has communicated to the Chief of Staff of FARDC, “all exit authorizations of any kind that have been issued but not yet executed are hereby revoked. It should be noted that these precautionary measures must not tolerate any lapses.”

Taarifa Investigative Desk is closely following up with this developing story. Updates are underway as the situation evolves.
