President Paul Kagame received Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, as Rwanda and Senegal seek to deepen bilateral cooperation and expand economic ties.
The meeting, on Friday afternoon, held in Kigali, focused on ways to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Niang’s visit follows the inaugural Rwanda-Senegal Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation held on Wednesday, which brought officials from both countries together to identify new areas of cooperation and strengthen existing partnerships.
The commission resulted in the signing of several bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding covering key sectors, providing a framework for expanded cooperation between Rwanda and Senegal.
The diplomatic engagements also coincided with the Rwanda-Senegal Business Forum, which brought together business leaders and investors from the two countries with the aim of increasing trade, investment and private-sector partnerships.
The latest engagements signal efforts by Kigali and Dakar to translate their longstanding political relations into broader economic cooperation, particularly through increased business links, investment and sector-specific partnerships.
Rwanda and Senegal have maintained close diplomatic relations and have increasingly sought to strengthen cooperation within the broader framework of African integration and economic development.
