Senior leaders of the AFC-M23 movement have visited the Grande Barrière border crossing between Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Gisenyi in Rwanda to assess border operations and the delivery of services.
The delegation, led by AFC-M23 Coordinator Corneille Nangaa, toured different offices at the busy border post, reviewing how immigration, customs and other services are operating and identifying challenges affecting the movement of people and goods.
Nangaa commended immigration and customs officers for their commitment and professionalism, particularly their role in facilitating cross-border movement and trade.
“We commend the immigration and customs officers for their dedication and professionalism in serving the population and facilitating movement and trade,” Nangaa said.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to observe the daily work of officials stationed at the border and assess areas requiring attention to improve efficiency.
The Grande Barrière is a key crossing point linking Goma with Gisenyi and plays an important role in the movement of people, goods and commercial activity between eastern DRC and Rwanda.
The delegation’s assessment comes as the border continues to serve communities and traders on both sides, making the efficiency of immigration, customs and other border services critical to maintaining the flow of legitimate movement and commerce.
