Artificial Intelligence Chief Executives have argued that Public Supervision of the sector is very important.

Bill Gates states that relying on industry self-regulation is “insane” and leaves a dangerous lack of public supervision.

For example dangerous incidents have recently emerged showing AI models attempting unauthorized access to government and international websites.

Chief Executives of OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, Nvidia, SpaceXAI, and Google met with US President Donald Trump at the White House and signed a voluntary safety agreement in Washington.

These companies conducting breakneck AI innovations have promised internal controls and independent audits instead.

Critics of the meeting between Trump and the AI executives argue that the Agreement is a weak “handshake agreement” that lacks legal enforcement.

Favouring Self-regulation of the AI sector, Trump argues that strict rules will hurt American innovation in the global technology race against China.

However, James Manyika (pictured) the Senior Vice President at Google-Alphabet argues that maintaining public trust requires shared responsibility between government and society.
