Taarifa has learned that Burundi’s Central Bank has lost enormous amount of money after hackers launched a stealth Cyber attack on the bank.
A reliable source has told Taarifa Investigative Desk that the attackers haven’t been located.
In late June 2024, unidentified individuals infiltrated the accounts of the Central Bank of Burundi (BRB) and transferred funds to Poland.
Bacinoni Bellarmin, the BRB’s communications officer, stated that as soon as the bank detected this breach, it immediately alerted the relevant authorities, including judicial bodies and the police, so that investigations could be conducted.
He specified that once the incident was discovered, measures were taken to prevent the withdrawal of a portion of the transferred funds.
