Rwanda and Cyprus have moved to strengthen their bilateral relations and connectivity following a meeting between Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, and his Cypriot counterpart, Constantinos Kombos.
The two ministers discussed the state of bilateral relations and explored areas of cooperation between the two countries, with a focus on strengthening ties and creating opportunities for closer engagement.
As part of the meeting, Nduhungirehe and Kombos signed an Air Services Agreement, aimed at establishing a framework for stronger aviation cooperation and improving connectivity between Rwanda and Cyprus.
The agreement is expected to facilitate closer links between the two countries by supporting air transport cooperation, potentially making travel and movement between Rwanda and Cyprus more accessible while creating opportunities for increased exchanges.
The signing also reflects efforts by both countries to deepen their broader bilateral relationship and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Aim of the agreement
The Air Services Agreement seeks to strengthen air connectivity and provide a formal framework for cooperation in civil aviation between Rwanda and Cyprus. Improved connectivity can support increased movement of people, business and investment while facilitating tourism and other forms of bilateral exchange.
The agreement comes as Rwanda continues to pursue partnerships that expand its international connectivity and strengthen its engagement with countries beyond Africa.
For Cyprus, closer aviation ties with Rwanda provide an avenue for enhanced engagement with Rwanda and, potentially, the wider East African region.
The meeting between the two foreign ministers therefore combined diplomatic discussions with a practical step aimed at strengthening the links between the two countries.
