The political situation in Juba can be described as tense following the dissolution of government early Wednesday, Taarifa reliably reports.
Information reaching Taarifa Investigative Desk indicates that President Salva Kiir has disolved government and permanently removed the vice president from his duties.
The government was dissolved through a presidential decree announced via state broadcaster.
The transitional government’s dissolution was envisaged as part of the road map to elections.
Kiir is expected to be on the presidential ballot.
However, kiirs main political nemesis Machar, is under house arrest. It’s not yet known whether Machar will be a candidate.
Last year Riek Machar South Sudan’s first vice president was placed under house arrest after justice authorities filed criminal charges over his alleged role in an attack on a garrison of government troops.
Machar’s treason trial is ongoing, and he denies the charges.
