President Paul Kagame has begun a two-day working visit to the Sultanate of Oman, where he held high-level talks with Oman’s leader, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and attracting investment.
Kagame was received by Sultan Haitham at Al Hosn Palace in Salalah, the capital of Dhofar Governorate in southern Oman, on Monday.
The two leaders held private discussions centred on expanding cooperation between Rwanda and Oman, with particular attention to sectors seen as critical to economic development and long-term investment.
Among the areas discussed were mining, renewable energy, food security, inland ports and transport, as well as healthcare.
The talks are expected to provide an opportunity for the two countries to explore new areas of economic partnership and identify investment opportunities that can benefit both sides.
Mining was highlighted as one of the sectors of interest, as Rwanda seeks to strengthen investment and value addition in its mineral resources, while renewable energy remains a key area for expanding sustainable and reliable energy access.
The discussions also covered food security, an increasingly important priority for countries seeking to strengthen agricultural production, supply chains and resilience against global economic and climate-related pressures.
Transport and logistics featured prominently in the talks, including efforts to make better use of inland ports and improve connectivity.
Such cooperation could contribute to strengthening trade links and facilitating the movement of goods and people.
Healthcare was also included among the areas discussed, reflecting the potential for greater collaboration and investment in health services and related infrastructure.
Kagame’s visit comes as Rwanda continues to deepen its engagement with countries in the Gulf region, seeking to expand trade, investment and diplomatic ties.
The two-day visit is expected to include further engagements aimed at strengthening relations between Rwanda and Oman and identifying practical opportunities for cooperation across strategic sectors.
