The Kinshasa government has revealed that it has so far Mobilised about U$700million to support intervention against the spread of Ebola epidemic.

Dr. Jean Kaseya the director general of Africa CDC noted that support was at three levels: political, strategic and technical.

He stated that the CDC organisation had taken the lead in mobilizing funds from external partners, alongside the WHO, claiming a total of over U$700 million mobilized for the Ebola response in the DRC alone.

He specified that U$452 million had already been disbursed by donors and made available to implementing partners on the ground, an amount he personally communicated to President Felix Tshisekedi during a meeting held on August 5.

According to Kaseya, of this sum is the U$242 million announced by the United States on August 5, bringing the total mobilized to nearly U$700 million.

Kaseya distinguished between two levels of intervention: high-level coordination, ensured by Africa CDC through its international efforts, mobilization trips to the United States, Europe, and Asia, and letters addressed by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to governments worldwide; and country-level coordination, which he clearly placed under the responsibility of the Congolese government.

“National coordination is the government’s job. And I will not do the government’s job,” he insisted, specifying that it is now up to the Congolese authorities to call upon all implementing partners to ensure the proper deployment of funds on the ground.
