Twenty-seven foreign nationals were formally granted Rwandan citizenship on Wednesday after taking the oath of allegiance during a ceremony held in Gasabo District.

The ceremony was organised by Gasabo District authorities in partnership with Rwanda’s Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration.

The new citizens originate from nine countries: Belgium, Burundi, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, France, Kenya, Uganda and the United States.

Following the oath, the new Rwandan citizens were encouraged to actively contribute to the country’s social and economic development and embrace the responsibilities that come with Rwandan citizenship.

The ceremony formally marked their admission into Rwandan citizenship after completing the required legal and administrative procedures.
