New details have emerged surrounding the arrest of FERWAFA President Fabrice Shema, who is being investigated over an allegedly bounced cheque.

A trusted source familiar with the matter told Taarifa that the cheque at the centre of the case was issued in October 2025 and was worth close to Rwf900 million.

The source said the cheque was connected to Shema’s private business dealings.

According to the source, efforts were subsequently made to resolve the dispute through mediation, but the talks failed to produce an agreement. He apparently kept promising to resolve the matter until authorities couldn’t take it anymore.

The latest information provides further context to the case after the Rwanda Investigation Bureau announced Shema’s arrest over allegations related to issuing a cheque without sufficient funds.
