A contingent of Rwanda National Police officers is preparing to deploy to Malakal, South Sudan, where it will serve under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The contingent, led by SSP Steven Muhizi, was briefed on Monday morning by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, ahead of its deployment.

Ujeneza urged the officers to maintain professionalism, discipline and teamwork throughout their mission, while placing the protection of people at risk at the centre of their responsibilities.

She also reminded the officers that their conduct while serving abroad reflects the values and reputation of the Rwanda National Police, calling on them to work closely with other personnel serving under the UN mission.

The officers will be stationed in Malakal, a strategic city in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State, as part of Rwanda’s contribution to UN peacekeeping operations in the country.
