The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has urged a new group of soldiers and police officers preparing for deployment to Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province to uphold discipline, unity and professionalism as they begin their peace support mission.

The message was delivered on Thursday, July 30, 2026, by Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the Commander of Rwanda’s Land Forces, during a briefing at Kami Military Camp, where the contingent is undergoing final preparations before replacing their colleagues currently serving in Cabo Delgado.

The briefing was also attended by CP Vincent B. Sano, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations.

Maj Gen Nyakarundi conveyed a message from President Paul Kagame, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards of conduct while carrying out duties abroad.

He reminded the troops that discipline, personal safety and teamwork remain critical pillars for the success of any mission, urging them to represent Rwanda with integrity and professionalism.

Rwanda has maintained a security presence in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province since 2021, supporting efforts to restore stability in the region following years of insurgency that disrupted communities and economic activities.

The Rwanda-led forces have worked alongside Mozambican security forces to secure key areas, protect civilians and support the return of normal life in affected communities.

The incoming contingent will replace Rwandan personnel who have been serving as part of the ongoing mission aimed at strengthening peace and security in Cabo Delgado.
