President Paul Kagame has challenged members of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) to recommit themselves to the party’s core values, warning against complacency and urging leaders to deliver tangible results for citizens.
Addressing the RPF Political Bureau meeting, Kagame said the gathering was an opportunity for members to reflect not only on the party’s affairs but also on Rwanda’s continued development.
He said the lessons emerging from events both within and outside the country reinforce the importance of remaining faithful to the RPF’s guiding principles.
“Our movement has a clear direction—one we have explained many times, put in writing and continue to follow every day through our actions,” Kagame said.
He noted that rebuilding Rwanda after its difficult history has demanded sacrifice and determination, adding that the country’s future will depend on the continued commitment of its citizens rather than outside assistance.
“No one will give us what we want for free. It requires our effort, our intelligence and our daily commitment,” he said.
Kagame urged party members to close the gap between promises and implementation, saying Rwandans expect leaders to produce visible improvements in their daily lives.
“We must move from words to concrete action. Our people need to see results that benefit them,” he said.
He also cautioned against complacency within leadership, saying some officials have become passive and assume progress will happen on its own.
“Good leadership requires constant follow-up and ensuring that what has been decided is implemented,” Kagame said.
The President further expressed concern over rising drug abuse and alcohol consumption among young people, saying parents, local leaders and communities have a responsibility to protect Rwanda’s youth.
He concluded by reminding RPF members that building a resilient nation requires discipline, innovation and consistent effort, not slogans or empty optimism.
“Don’t invest in vibes. Invest in the foundation where you can build,” Kagame said, urging members to focus on lasting achievements rather than appearances.
