Health data is playing an increasingly important role in improving healthcare delivery, with digital technologies now helping health professionals provide faster, smarter and more efficient care to patients.

Speaking on Monday at a regional meeting in Kigali, Minister of Health Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana said collecting and effectively using health data enables the country to quickly assess the state of the health sector and make informed decisions that improve healthcare services.

The meeting brought together health experts from seven African countries to exchange experiences and explore ways to strengthen the collection, management and use of health data to improve healthcare systems across the continent.

“Collecting health data helps the country gain a real-time picture of the health sector. Today, we have reached a stage where this information is being used to support patient treatment through digital technology,” Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana said.

Discussions focused on improving the quality of health information systems, promoting evidence-based decision-making and accelerating the adoption of digital health solutions.

Participants also explored opportunities for greater regional collaboration in building stronger, data-driven healthcare systems.

Officials said effective use of health data is key to delivering quality healthcare, enhancing disease surveillance and ensuring timely responses to public health challenges, while advancing the continent’s digital health transformation.
