Rwanda is set to receive its first bulk shipment of petroleum products at the end of July 2026, marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen energy security and stabilize fuel prices.
Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva announced that the inaugural shipment, carrying 40,000 tonnes of petroleum products, will arrive at the Port of Tanga in Tanzania before being transported to Rwanda.
He added that Rwanda plans to receive a similar shipment every month under the new import arrangement.
The government expects the strategy to improve the reliability of fuel supplies, reduce import costs through bulk purchasing, and help keep pump prices more affordable and stable over the long term.
The initiative forms part of Rwanda’s broader efforts to enhance supply chain resilience, lower the impact of global fuel price fluctuations, and support the country’s growing demand for petroleum products driven by economic expansion and increased transport and industrial activity.
