Rwanda’s Chamber of Deputies has unanimously passed a law approving the national budget for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, authorizing government expenditure of Rwf 7.796 trillion starting in July 2026.
The law was approved during a plenary session held on Tuesday, June 24, with all 63 Members of Parliament present voting in favor of the legislation.
The newly adopted law establishes the government’s spending framework for the fiscal year running from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.
It provides the legal authority for public institutions to utilize state resources to finance national development priorities and deliver essential public services.
The approved budget will fund key sectors including infrastructure development, healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, social protection, digital transformation and job creation initiatives.
It also reflects Rwanda’s continued efforts to strengthen economic resilience and accelerate sustainable growth.
The increase in public spending demonstrates the government’s commitment to implementing strategic development programs while reducing reliance on external aid through improved domestic revenue collection.
The unanimous vote by lawmakers signals strong parliamentary support for the government’s economic agenda and long-term development objectives.
For ordinary citizens, the budget will directly affect investments in roads, schools, hospitals, agricultural productivity, energy access and employment opportunities.
It will also support ongoing efforts to modernize public services and improve living standards across the country.
The annual budget serves as a financial roadmap that guides government operations and development priorities over the next 12 months.
In simple terms, the law means that Parliament has officially granted the Government of Rwanda permission to collect and spend Rwf 7.796 trillion during the 2026/2027 fiscal year to run the country, finance public services and implement development projects aimed at driving economic growth and improving the welfare of Rwandans.
