Rwanda has reaffirmed its ambition to become one of Africa’s leading artificial intelligence (AI) hubs, with the government placing innovation, digital skills, and youth empowerment at the center of its national development agenda.
Speaking at the TeKnowledge Global expansion event, Minister of ICT and Innovation Paula Ingabire highlighted the transformative role of AI in driving economic growth, creating quality jobs, and fostering inclusive development.
She emphasized that Rwanda is committed to building an ecosystem where artificial intelligence serves as a catalyst for innovation across sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing, finance, and public service delivery.
The minister noted that young people are at the heart of Rwanda’s digital transformation, describing them as the innovators, entrepreneurs, and professionals who will shape the country’s AI-powered future.
She stressed the importance of equipping the next generation with advanced digital and AI-related skills to ensure they are prepared for emerging opportunities in the global digital economy.
The expansion of TeKnowledge Global in Rwanda is expected to strengthen the country’s growing technology ecosystem by creating high-value employment opportunities, supporting digital talent development, and delivering advanced AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital transformation solutions.
The investment aligns with Rwanda’s long-term vision of becoming a regional center for technology, innovation, and knowledge-based services.
The announcement comes as Rwanda recently approved the establishment of a National Artificial Intelligence Agency, a landmark initiative aimed at accelerating the country’s AI agenda.
The new agency will coordinate national AI initiatives, promote responsible and ethical AI adoption, attract investment, strengthen research and innovation, and support the deployment of AI solutions across key sectors of the economy.
The creation of the agency builds on Rwanda’s National AI Policy and reflects the government’s commitment to positioning the country as a continental leader in emerging technologies.
Through strategic partnerships with global technology companies, investments in digital infrastructure, and a strong focus on skills development, Rwanda continues to lay the foundation for an AI-driven economy capable of creating jobs, improving public services, and enhancing national competitiveness.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries worldwide, government officials believe that combining forward-looking policies with investments in talent, innovation, and strategic partnerships will enable Rwanda to become a preferred destination for AI research, technology investment, and digital entrepreneurship in Africa.
