Rwanda has reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a leading destination for Global Business Services (GBS), Taarifa reports.

This ambition has been reiterated as government leaders, industry players, and development partners have gathered for the second edition of the GBS Sector Policy Roundtable to discuss strategies for accelerating the sector’s growth and global competitiveness.

The high-level forum, attended by RDB Deputy Chief Executive Officer Juliana Muganza, focused on positioning Rwanda as a premier destination for high-value digital services, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data analytics, and advanced business operations.

Speaking at the event, Muganza underscored the strategic importance of the sector in shaping Rwanda’s future economy.

“GBS is not a niche opportunity – it sits at the heart of where Rwanda is heading. As we work to establish Rwanda as a regional hub for services, technology, finance, and innovation, knowledge-intensive industries represent one of our clearest pathways to quality jobs, export earnings, and the kind of economy our young people can genuinely thrive in,” she said.

The roundtable highlighted Rwanda’s growing ambition to transition into a knowledge-based, service-driven economy that can compete globally.

Stakeholders discussed how the Global Business Services sector can help attract international investment, generate high-quality employment opportunities, and strengthen Rwanda’s position as a preferred destination for digital and technology-enabled services.

The discussions emphasized the country’s unique strengths, including its young population, expanding digital infrastructure, supportive business environment, and commitment to innovation.

Participants agreed that Rwanda has an opportunity to move beyond traditional outsourcing services and establish itself as a regional hub for sophisticated, knowledge-intensive industries.

The conference also reinforced the importance of collaboration between government institutions, private sector players, academic institutions, and development partners to build a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of rapidly evolving industries.

Several key priorities emerged from the discussions, including strengthening policies that attract investment in high-value digital services, expanding skills development programmes in AI, cybersecurity, and data analytics, enhancing public-private partnerships, and promoting Rwanda internationally as a competitive Global Business Services destination.

The outcomes of the roundtable reflect Rwanda’s broader economic ambitions under its long-term development agenda.

By investing in knowledge-intensive industries, the country aims to create quality jobs, increase export earnings, and build a resilient economy that offers meaningful opportunities for its growing youth population.

As Rwanda advances its vision of becoming a regional centre for services, technology, finance, and innovation, the Global Business Services sector is increasingly being recognised as a key driver of sustainable economic transformation and future growth.
