Six Rwandans Join Africa’s Top 100 Entrepreneurs in ABH 2026

Rwanda has secured a notable place in the Africa Business Heroes (ABH) 2026 competition, with six entrepreneurs earning spots among the prestigious Top 100 entrepreneurs selected from across the continent.

The selected entrepreneurs are Blandine Umuziranenge of Kosmotive, David Kamugundu of eFiche Ltd, Hinda Ruton of Africa Quantitative Sciences, Marie Ange Mukagahima of ZIMA Healthy Group, Youssef Travaly of EDPU Digital Clinic, and Sharon Akanyana of Ishyo Foods.

Their selection comes after a highly competitive process that attracted more than 24,000 applications from all 54 African countries. Backed by the Jack Ma Foundation, Africa Business Heroes is a flagship initiative that celebrates and supports exceptional African entrepreneurs who are driving innovation and creating lasting impact in their communities.

This year’s edition marks a significant milestone for the competition. For the first time, organizers expanded the initial selection pool from 50 to 100 entrepreneurs, citing the growing depth, diversity, and maturity of entrepreneurship across Africa.

The 2026 Top 100 cohort features entrepreneurs from 27 African countries and 16 industries. Women founders make up 33 percent of the selected entrepreneurs, while half of the cohort consists of returning applicants.

Rwanda’s six representatives come from diverse sectors, including health technology, data science, food processing, and innovation-driven enterprises. Their inclusion reflects the country’s evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem and growing reputation as a hub for innovation.

Within East Africa, Kenya leads the region with 13 entrepreneurs in the Top 100, followed by Rwanda with six representatives. Tanzania has two entrepreneurs on the list, while Uganda has one.

The selected entrepreneurs will now advance to the next stage of the competition, where they will compete for a place among the ABH Top 20 Semi-Finalists. The semi-finals are scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, on August 21 and 22, 2026.

Although ABH expanded its first-round cohort this year, the competition’s US$1.5 million prize pool remains unchanged. The overall winner will receive US$300,000, while the remaining Top 10 finalists will receive grants ranging from US$100,000 to US$250,000.

For Rwanda, this recognition highlights the increasing impact of local entrepreneurs who are developing innovative solutions in healthcare, technology, agriculture, food production, and business services.

The country has also recorded success in previous editions of the competition. Five Rwandan entrepreneurs have previously reached the ABH Top 10 finalists list: Francine Munyaneza of Munyax Eco, Yvette Ishimwe of Iriba Water Group, Christelle Kwizera of Water Access Rwanda, Kevine Kagirimpundu of Uzuri K&Y, and Albert Munyabugingo of Vuba Vuba Africa Ltd.

The latest achievement further reinforces Rwanda’s growing influence in Africa’s entrepreneurial landscape and showcases the country’s ability to nurture businesses that are addressing local challenges while creating opportunities for economic growth across the continent.
