The Kenyan government said that it is preparing fully functional quarantine and isolation centres as an intervention against the growing Ebola spread.
Kenya has so far investigated 59 suspected Ebola cases, all of which tested negative
Ministry of Health said it is establishing quarantine facilities in high-risk areas, insisting the centres must be operational “at whatever cost” to ensure exposed individuals are safely quarantined while confirmed cases are isolated and managed appropriately.
Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni said that Kenya has heightened surveillance following reported Ebola cases in neighbouring Uganda.
Ministry of Health said that it has also enhanced laboratory capacity through facilities in Nairobi and Kisumu to support rapid testing, diagnosis and emergency response.
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula said that his county is establishing two Ebola isolation centres.
“We have already held discussions on our level of preparedness to tackle the Ebola disease that is threatening the East African region. We agreed that we must remain vigilant and deploy public health officers to help prevent the spread of the disease in Kenya and across the region,” he said.
