Bombs Raining amidst Ebola intervention
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General has expressed concerns about the ongoing war between Congolese troops and the AFC/M23 rebels saying it affects efforts of containing Ebola spread.
“Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is now facing a catastrophic collision of disease and conflict, with the Ebola outbreak in Ituri province outstripping the response,” he said on his X account.
“The ongoing clashes are causing massive population displacements, forcing those exposed to the virus to crowd into overcrowded camps and cutting off essential containment corridors. Frontline healthcare workers are risking everything, while attacks on health facilities are making it virtually impossible to track cases and their contacts,” he added.
“We cannot build trust within the community or isolate the sick while bombs are falling. We urge all warring parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire,” Tedros said.
