Rwanda’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Vincent Biruta, and the Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, on May 21 toured the Mayange Counter-Terrorism Training Centre in Bugesera District alongside senior police officials from Rwanda and Uganda as part of ongoing regional security cooperation efforts.
The delegation also included SSP Tobias Ahumuza, the Tactical Commandant of the Uganda Police Force, and other senior officers participating in the Joint SWAT Training organized under the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO).
The visit focused on assessing the preparedness and progress of the specialized counter-terrorism training currently underway at the facility.
Officials said the joint training is intended to strengthen tactical and operational capabilities among participating security forces while improving regional preparedness against terrorism and other transnational security threats.
The exercises also aim to deepen cooperation between police institutions in the East African region through coordinated drills, skills development, and joint operational planning.
Security experts increasingly view regional collaboration as critical in addressing evolving security challenges, including terrorism, organized crime, cross-border criminal networks, and violent extremism affecting parts of East Africa and the wider region.
The Mayange Counter-Terrorism Training Centre has become one of Rwanda’s key facilities for advanced police and tactical training, supporting broader efforts to enhance professional security standards and regional security partnerships.
