Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have taken part in a community cleanup initiative in Malakal aimed at improving safety and living conditions for vulnerable residents.
The exercise involved personnel from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police (RNP), who joined fellow UN peacekeepers in clearing metal scraps and other hazardous debris from the Hai Matar and Hai Luakat residential areas.
The locations are currently hosting internally displaced persons being relocated within the region.
According to residents, the accumulated scraps had become a serious concern, causing injuries and obstructing farming activities that many families depend on for survival.
Community members praised the intervention, saying the cleanup would help restore safer access to land and improve daily living conditions.
In addition to the sanitation exercise, the RDF contingent distributed clean water to residents as part of ongoing humanitarian support efforts.
The initiative is intended to assist vulnerable communities while promoting a healthier and more secure environment for displaced families.
UNMISS peacekeepers continue to work closely with local communities across South Sudan through activities focused on protection, humanitarian assistance, and community stabilization.
