Ebola outbreak in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo has triggered emergency measures in the East African countries.
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda on Saturday summoned the country’s epidemics Task Force to his office in the Capital Kampala.
“This evening, I met the task force on epidemics in Nakasero. We discussed the Ebola situation in the region, and we will communicate the way forward. There is no cause for alarm,” Museveni said via X platform.
Meanwhile, the Kenyan government has also heightened surveillance and preparedness measures.
“The Government is closely monitoring the evolving situation together with regional and international public health partners,” the Ministry of Health statement signed by Dr. Patrick Amoth said.
DRC has direct land boarder with Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and South Sudan, which maintain travel and trade links with Kenya.
A statement issued on Saturday by DRC Health Ministry said laboratory tests conducted in Ituri Province confirmed Ebola virus in 13 out of 20 samples tested, with preliminary findings indicating a non-Zaire ebolavirus strain as genomic sequencing continues.
