Human Rights Watch said it wants to send it’s staff to access areas under administration by AFC/M23 rebels in the DRC’s North and South Kivu provinces.

The HRW is pressing to conduct investigations into human rights violations in these areas under rebels.

In a new HRW report titled “We Are Civilians!”, released on May 13th, it details murders, sexual violence, and kidnappings allegedly committed by the AFC/M23 rebels during the occupation of Uvira, the provisional capital of South Kivu province.

Meanwhile, HRW organisation has called on the AFC/M23 rebels to allow regional and international bodies as well as independent human rights observers to investigate the human rights situation in the areas under its control.
