Rwanda government has announced that the national budget for the 2026/2027 fiscal year will reach Rwf7.8 trillion, reflecting a significant increase aimed at accelerating the country’s economic transformation and development agenda.

The proposed budget, valued at Rwf7,796.3 billion, represents an increase of Rwf844.2 billion compared to the revised Rwf6,952.1 billion budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year.

The figures were presented as part of the government’s budget framework and medium-term expenditure plans, highlighting Rwanda’s continued focus on strengthening public investment, improving service delivery, and sustaining economic growth.

The increase in expenditure is expected to support strategic sectors including infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, social protection, and job creation, in line with the country’s National Strategy for Transformation (NST2).

According to government projections, the 2026/2027 budget will be financed through a combination of domestic revenues, external grants, and loans, with emphasis placed on improving tax collection and enhancing efficient use of public resources.

The government has also indicated that priority will be given to projects aimed at boosting productivity, supporting private sector growth, and strengthening resilience against global economic shocks.

Economic analysts say the expanded budget demonstrates Rwanda’s commitment to maintaining momentum in economic recovery and long-term development despite ongoing global financial uncertainties.

The budget framework is expected to guide government spending priorities for the upcoming fiscal year as Parliament continues discussions and reviews before final approval.

The 2026/2027 fiscal year budget is also expected to reinforce investments in youth empowerment, digital transformation, and climate resilience initiatives as Rwanda advances toward its broader development targets.
