Corneille Nangaa the coordinator of Congo River Alliance/March 23 Movement (AFC/M23) has written a protest letter to Washington questioning the impartiality of US in its mediation efforts.
Taarifa investigative Desk has established that Corneille Nangaa, contacted US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to express his concerns about the conduct of the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which Washington is facilitating alongside Doha and Lomé.
Movement deplores the failure of the Congolese authorities to respect several commitments made during the Montreux discussions of April 18, 2026, starting with the release of 317 detainees, which was supposed to take place within ten days.
The AFC/M23 also reports recurring drone and aircraft bombings of areas under its control, as well as assassination attempts targeting members of its leadership.
Beyond these operational grievances, the letter directly questions the stance of the American delegation.
Since the signing of the critical minerals agreements between Washington and Kinshasa, Corneille Nangaa believes that Félix Tshisekedi’s regime has benefited from a form of tolerance, while certain actors close to the government have recently been targeted by sanctions.

The political coordinator of the AFC/M23 also recalls the gestures made by his organization in a logic of de-escalation: unilateral withdrawal from the territory of Walikale in March 2025, release of more than 1,350 detainees, offer to hand over to the ICRC more than 5,000 elements of the FARDC and their dependents, withdrawal from the city of Uvira and opening of humanitarian corridors.
He emphasizes, however, that the security situation in Uvira has significantly deteriorated since this withdrawal, which he attributes to loyalist forces supported, according to him, by the Burundian army, foreign mercenaries, and the FDLR and Wazalendo militias.
A copy of the letter was sent to Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé, the African Union’s designated mediator, Qatari Minister of State Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, the Swiss facilitation team, and Massad Boulos, special advisor to the US president and facilitator of the Doha process in Washington.
