President Felix Tshisekedi could be peddling an agenda to change the constitution to extend his grip on power.

According to opposition leader Delly Sesanga, the press conference held on Wednesday by Tshisekedi in the Capital Kinshasa was an attempt to declare third-term intentions.

Sesanga who heads the Envol party warns against an “institutional drift.” According to him, the  DRC would be exposed to a risk of political crisis if the issue of term limits were to be called into question.

“The DRC cannot enter a new cycle of institutional tensions and personalization of power. All democrats must stand against this drift,” he said.

Sesanga calls on political and social forces to mobilize to prevent any development that he considers contrary to the spirit of the Constitution.

“This is a betrayal of his father’s struggle against Mobutu, who clung to power and exercised personal power. Félix Tshisekedi has once again killed the martyrs who gave their lives to protect the constitution,” Sesanga said.
