Rwanda on May 1, joined the global community in celebrating International Labour Day, with a strong focus on collaboration as a driver of skills development, job creation, and resilient local economies.

This year’s theme, “Partnering for skills, powering job creation, fostering local economic resilience,” highlights the importance of collective action among government, employers, and workers in addressing employment challenges and strengthening economic growth.

Speaking during national celebrations held at the University of Rwanda, the Minister of Public Service and Labour, Ambassador Christine Nkulikiyinka, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting decent and productive employment while expanding partnerships across sectors.

“The Government of Rwanda remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing decent and productive jobs, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring that economic growth translates into broader opportunities and improved livelihoods for all Rwandans,” she said.

The event brought together workers, employers, and development partners to recognize the contribution of Rwandans to labour, innovation, and national development across various sectors.

The 2026 Labour Day theme also emphasizes the need for joint efforts in designing and implementing job creation programs that can withstand current economic challenges while fostering inclusive and sustainable growth.

As Rwanda continues to prioritize human capital development, today’s celebration served as both a reflection on progress made and a renewed call to action for all stakeholders to work together in building a resilient and opportunity-rich economy.
