Dubai, UAE — Rwanda’s elite tactical units are delivering a strong performance at the UAE SWAT Challenge 2026, one of the world’s most demanding international competitions for special weapons and tactics teams. Rwanda is represented by three teams from the Rwanda National Police and the Rwanda Defence Force, competing against 109 teams from 48 countries.
After the first several days of competition at the Training City in Al Ruwayyah, standings show Rwanda National Police SWAT Team I ranked 12th with 99 points,
Rwanda National Police SWAT Team II in 23rd place with 88 points, and the Rwanda Defence Force Special Operations Forces team in 33rd place with 78 points.
The competition, which runs through February 11, tests tactical capability, endurance and teamwork across five events: the Assault Challenge, Hostage Rescue, Officer Rescue, Tower Challenge and the Obstacle Course.
The Obstacle Course, held on Day 5, requires each five-member team to complete 19 obstacles under strict time pressure, with penalties applied for errors.
Rwanda’s performance builds on previous editions. In 2025, Rwanda National Police SWAT Team I finished 11th overall with 407 points, while Rwanda National Police SWAT Team II ranked 18th.
Rwandan teams have consistently performed strongly in the Obstacle Course category, where speed and coordination are critical.
The UAE SWAT Challenge is widely regarded as one of the premier tactical police competitions globally, bringing together elite units from six continents.
Beyond competition, it serves as a platform for exchanging operational best practices, strengthening readiness and enhancing international cooperation.
As the final events unfold, Rwanda’s teams remain focused on climbing the rankings and consolidating their reputation among Africa’s top-performing tactical units.
