Content creators from Rwanda believe they can harvest money from digital platforms if government creates an enabling policy and partnership with global social media companies.

Popular Rwandan musician Bruce Melodie has called on the government to intervene and create an enabling environment for content creators to earn income directly from social media platforms such as TikTok.

The Katerina hitmaker raised the concern during the recently concluded National Dialogue (Umushyikirano), where he was given the opportunity to speak as a youth who has successfully created employment through music and digital content creation.

Addressing President Paul Kagame and other leaders, Bruce Melodie highlighted the financial challenges faced by local content creators, noting that despite their hard work and global reach, many are unable to access their earnings easily.

“We, as content creators, need the government’s support to help us earn money from our social media platforms just like creators in other countries,” he said.

“Today, we are forced to go through long and complicated channels, including traveling outside the country, just to withdraw money we have worked hard for in other countries.

”He explained that the lack of direct monetization systems not only limits income but also discourages young people who rely on digital platforms as their primary source of livelihood.

Bruce Melodie’s remarks reflect growing concerns among Rwanda’s creative community, as more young people turn to digital platforms for employment, innovation, and global exposure.

Many believe that improved policies and partnerships with global tech companies could unlock new economic opportunities for creators.

The National Dialogue continues to serve as a platform for citizens—especially the youth—to voice challenges and propose solutions aimed at national development.
