Africa’s tech minds and policy makers are determined to propel the continent into a massive creator of Artificial Intelligence technologies rather than just remaining in one corner of a mere consumer.

They believe that a unified AI strategy would drive socioeconomic development on the continent.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame, early this year chaired the Africa AI Council inaugural meeting convened by Smart Africa.

The council said that it aims to develop national strategies, foster research, and mobilize investment.

The council seeks to establish Thematic Working Groups to focus on AI governance, talent development, and infrastructure.

The agenda included developing an AI Fund Concept and creating an AI governance toolkit and talent readiness index.

The initiative is supported by partners like Qhala, Rwanda’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the World Economic Forum.

The council is designed to ensure African leadership in shaping global AI trends and accelerating the continent’s digital transformation.
