Matthew Louis Miller the director of Musanze based Virunga Valley Academy is celebrating one year since becoming a Rwandan citizen.

Expressing his love for Rwanda, Miller said via his handle on X platform on Tuesday, “It’s my first Rwandan birthday! One year ago I was sworn in as a citizen of Rwanda.”

His message accompanied by a photo (above), Miller added, “I am even more proud today to be a part of this incredible country! I’d like to take the opportunity on this special day to share some reasons why.”

“I love being a part of a country that is constantly improving. In the past 14 years, I have seen the way Rwandan leaders, from the local level to the President, work sacrificially for the good of others. The results speak for themselves,” Miller said.

Miller expalined that he loves being a part of a country that consistently demonstrates that it can perform at a world-class level. “Events like BAL, FIA Awards, and the UCI World Championships have shown the world that we are special. I can’t wait to see what is next!”

“I love that we don’t focus on tribe in Rwanda, but rather are brought together by ideals of unity, peace, reconciliation, and the dignity of all people. From its beginning, Rwanda was built on ideals that could be adopted as the nation expanded (Kwanda), the root of our name,” he noted.

Miller also wants other outsiders to consider relocating to Rwanda, “I believe this creates a unique foundation for outsiders to be included in the ongoing growth of the nation. Though I may not look like a typical Rwandan, I am proud to say, “Ndi umunyarwanda!” and love that we are an inclusive nation that welcomes all who share our ideals.”

While penning off, Miller noted “Thank you to all of you who have welcomed me so warmly into the Rwandan family! Imana ibahe umugisha!”

However, Miller’s words expressing his pride to be Rwandan did not go unscratched by some members on X platform. Some praised him for coming out and expressing his love for the country.

“Congratulations dear compatriot for your 1st Rwandan birthday. Enjoy fully the original universal brotherness spirit of Rwanda!,” said Joseph Nsengimana.

Another X member responded, “You’re one of us Matt, when we see you, we see a brother, nothing more or less, and as you rightly said, tribalism is unRwandan, our forefathers built this nation with the idea of expanding it, hence wherever it extends (aho rwandira hose), we see them as brothers and sisters!!”

Miller describes himself as a God fearing person, husband of Andrea, father of Abby, Aidan, Asher, and AnnaMarie, committed follower of Jesus, lover of nature.

According to provisions of the Rwandan law, One can hold duo citizenship.
