The 13th Police Women Convention has officially begun at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.
The two-day event, held under the theme “A Female Police Officer at the Forefront in Perfecting Professional Policing,” brings together female police officers from various departments of the Rwanda National Police.
The convention was inaugurated by the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Consolée Uwimana, alongside the Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye.
In her opening remarks, Minister Uwimana praised the Rwanda National Police for its commitment to gender promotion, highlighting the increasing number of female officers within the force.
“We appreciate Rwanda Police for setting strategies and supporting gender promotion, as demonstrated by the rise in the number of female police officers,” Minister Uwimana said.
“Female officers, you are our daughters, and various reports show the uniqueness in the way you carry out your duties. Your ability, willingness, and talents prove that women can indeed be at the forefront in perfecting professional policing, as emphasized by the theme of this year’s convention.”
The Minister also encouraged the participants to use the convention as an opportunity to evaluate their achievements, discuss the challenges they face, and explore opportunities to enhance their day-to-day duties.
Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, reiterated the importance of the role of female police officers in the force and their contributions to professional policing. He urged the officers to continue upholding the values of discipline, integrity, and professionalism in their work.
The convention serves as a platform for female police officers to share experiences, engage in discussions on gender-related challenges in the force, and strategize on how to further enhance their roles in professional policing.
The event reflects Rwanda’s ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in all sectors, including law enforcement.
As the convention progresses, the officers will engage in various sessions aimed at addressing the specific challenges they encounter in their duties and identifying ways to overcome them, further strengthening the role of women in the Rwanda National Police.
