In another blow to the credibility of a local sports federation, the National Volleyball President, Gustave Nkurunziza, is being held by Police to face charges of alleged corruption and embezzlement.
Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Theos Badege, Nkurunziza said, Nkurunziza is arrested alongside Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) Executive Director Jean De Dieu Mukundiyukuri on corruption and embezzlement charges but investigations are still ongoing on. Mukundiyukuri served as a beach volleyball referee before assuming this post in March last year.
He became the third sports official to be thrown in jail in less than a week after two official of the Rwanda Volleyball association (FRVB) were also arrested under similar allegations.
The first pair included; Executive Secretary Christian Hatumimana and Treasurer Jeannette. Nkurunziza was re-elected unopposed a week ago, beating former mayor of Gisagara districts, Leandre Karekezi by 18-9 votes.
