VIDEO: Kagame’s Speech At The World Tourism Awards In London

President Kagame received the World Tourism Award in London on Monday in recognition of his visionary leadership in sustainable tourism wildlife conservation.

He said the award recognises Rwanda’s efforts to promote “sustainable tourism.”

“We have been working hard to protect our natural environment while building the infrastructure for our visitors and citizens.”

Kagame explained that growth in this industry has proven to be a driver of shared prosperity because, “we ensure that Rwandans benefit directly.”

These good results, he said, have been possible because Rwandans have made a mindset shift from dependence to dignity and self-reliance. “This is why for example former poachers are today the most dedicated protectors of wildlife.”

The President congratulated the Bradford Group, the organisers of the event, on the 20th anniversary of the World Tourism Awards.

He had special thanks to the host, Reed Travel Expo, as well as the co-sponsors Corinthia Hotels United Airlines and The New York Times.
