After almost two weeks of scanty details on the whereabouts of tycoon Dennis Karera, it has emerged that he has been released and is safe at his home – a close friend allegedly told a Ugandan website Chimpreports.
Meanwhile, in another exclusive report that Taarifa cannot verify indicates that the businessman had been arrested on explicit orders from the head of state over sabotage and greed.
According to a local Rwandan website (greatlakesvoice), highly placed sources in security circles revealed that Karera had been held for questioning at a secrete facility at Kinyinya, a suburb of Kigali city.
What Could be his Crime?
Karera has been frustrating implementation of a cooperation deal between government of Rwanda and Chinese company Huawei Technologies.
This tycoon is said to have been working for interests of another agency or company that badly wants Huawei Technologies to lose reputation and the big deal with Rwanda.
Huawei Technologies has been operating in Rwanda for 10 years but last year, President Paul Kagame met with the Chairwoman of Huawei Technologies Ms. Sun Yafang on the sidelines of the Broadband Commission meeting.
Kagame and Ms. Sun Yafang signed a deal that would enable Huawei Technologies to build Regional Data Centers, National Broadband, Smart Grid and Smart Education among other infrastructures to promote Rwanda to become the regional ICT Hub.
It should be remembered that Huawei Technologies had set offices in Kigali Heights a Building managed by Tycoon Karera.
Huawei Technologies could not implement the deal with Rwanda because they were sabotaged by their landlord until they decided to pack their bags and returned to China.
However, Huawei Technologies sent to Kigali its Senior Vice President Ms. Lin Ruiqi that personally complained to President Kagame.
Sources say, that Kagame is said to have assured Ms. Lin Ruiqi that he would personally fix the problem.
Still, when China’s president Xi Jinping recently visited Rwanda, he asked President Kagame why his government was frustrating a business deal with Chinese Huawei Technologies despite a well signed memorandum of understating between the two parties.
Sources say, Kagame was very disturbed and told Jinping he would solve the problem with immediate effect. Kagame is said to have ordered immediate arrest of anyone involved in this shameful sabotage.
