Two people have reportedly died after feeding contaminated meat of a dead cow in Gisagara district.
Reports indicate that 24 people had feasted on the caccus but two died instantly others are still hospitalised.
Both the affected are residents of Mamba and Gishubi sectors. They ate the meat on February 16th and developed stomach complications. Two days later, some of them started going to the hospital suffering from diarrhoea.
Gakoma hospital carried out tests which indicated that the first patients who went to seek medical care had both eaten the meat. The hospital then called on the remaining other people who might have eaten the same meat.
Dr. Emile Tuyishime director of Gakoma hospital told Igihe that those 2 who died were among 24 patients.
“All those that we received were 24. Two of them including one old man and a child died. When we went to their home we found out that the food they took was contaminated. We succeeded in treating others and those that we treated got better and went back home. There are now 5 people in the hospital and their condition is getting better,” he said.
So far, it hasn’t been established what the dead cow could have been suffering from but the veterinary doctor that had been treating the sick cow escaped.
