Tshisekedi Accuses ex-Leader Kabila As ‘Real Sponsor’ of Armed Movements

Former President of DRC Joseph Kabila is back to the spotlight being accused as the main sponsor of armed rebellion in the country.

President Félix Tshisekedi said on Friday that his predecessor Kabila of being “the real sponsor” of the armed movements that are destabilizing the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The real sponsor of this opposition is my predecessor, Joseph Kabila. But he does not admit it, he does not take responsibility for his actions,” claimed Tshisekedi at the Munich Security Conference.

Tshisekedi made the claims following the seizure of Kavumu airport in South Kivu.

The DRC leader Tshisekedi claimed that some members of the opposition refused to participate in the 2023 electoral process because they were “preparing the destabilization” of the country.

“They failed to prevent the elections and now they are joining forces with the M23 to try to bring down our regime by force,” Tshisekedi claimed.

He compared the situation in the DRC to that of Ukraine, believing that his country suffers from a lack of support despite decades of violence in the east of the territory.

However, former President Joseph Kabila, who ruled the DRC from 2001 to 2019, has not publicly responded to the accusations.
