The Accounting manager of Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (Tanesco) Philidon Siyame,58, has been dragged to court and charged for occasioning a loss of about U$648,737.85 (Tshs1.5billion).
Siyame on Monday appeared before the Kisutu Resident Magistrates court in Dar-es-Salaam and was not allowed to enter any plea to the charge before Senior Resident Magistrate Yusto Rubongora because his case has been filed under the Economic and Organised crime Control Act.
The Magistrate informed the Siyame that court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case, including the question of bail. in the circumstances, the accused was ordered to go on remand until February 22,2021 when the case will be mentioned.
According to details, Siyame is accused of intentionally and unlawfully and with intent to make profit, approved to write off and write on stock discrepancies in 2018/19 books of accounts without approval from relevant authorities.
As a result therefore, according to the prosecution, the accused person caused Tanesco to suffer a pecuniary loss of 1,479995364/92.
