Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in Egypt celebrated its 30th Liberation Day with distinguished guests, including Prof. Dr. Hani Sewilam, who represented the Egyptian government on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
“I extend heartfelt congratulations from President El-Sisi to President Paul Kagame on his re-election,” said Dr. Sewilam, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to strengthening ties with Rwanda. He highlighted the robust relations between Egypt and Rwanda across political, economic, cultural, and developmental domains.
Dr. Sewilam announced partial funding from the African Development Bank for the VICMED project’s feasibility study, aiming to connect Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean Sea through the Nile River. “This project will enhance socio-economic integration and trade,” he said, noting its benefits for landlocked countries like Rwanda.
He also encouraged Rwanda to join Egypt’s “Action on Water Adaptation and Resilience” (AWARe) initiative, which collaborates with international organizations to address water-related challenges. “This initiative offers mutual benefits in tackling climate change and promoting resilience,” he emphasized.
Rwanda’s Ambassador CG Dan Munyuza reflected on the nation’s journey, honoring the sacrifices of the Rwanda Patriotic Army. “We pay tribute to Rwanda’s heroes who fought for our freedom and unity,” he declared. He highlighted Rwanda’s transformation under President Kagame’s leadership, noting the country’s rise to stability and prosperity.
“Our commitment is to improve the lives of all Rwandans,” President Kagame stated, emphasizing themes of accountability and ambition in Rwanda’s politics. The Liberation Day celebrations, themed “Rwanda’s Journey Continues,” underscored the nation’s dedication to reconciliation, justice, and international cooperation.
President Kagame’s recent meeting with President El-Sisi further demonstrated the strong bilateral cooperation, with both leaders praising the growing economic, trade, security, and military ties between their countries.
As Rwanda marks this significant anniversary, it celebrates not only its liberation but also its ongoing journey toward a unified and prosperous future, bolstered by international partnerships and a commitment to global peace and security.
