Rwandan Peacekeepers Honored with Presidential Medal in the Central African Republic

Rwandan peacekeepers (RWABATT12), serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), were awarded the Presidential Medal of Appreciation by President Faustin Archange Touadera of the Central African Republic.

The prestigious decoration was bestowed in recognition of the peacekeepers’ dedication, unwavering professionalism, and outstanding service during their peace support operations in the Central African Republic (CAR).

RWABATT12 has been instrumental in protecting civilians and ensuring the security of the CAR President amidst ongoing conflict in the region.

Lt. Col. Joseph Gatabazi, Commanding Officer of RWABATT12, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Touadera for the support extended to his troops. He also praised the resilience and commitment of the Rwandan peacekeepers in fulfilling their mandate.

“We are deeply honored by this recognition,” said Lt. Col. Gatabazi. “The support from the President and the people of the Central African Republic has been invaluable in our efforts to maintain peace and security.”

The ceremony saw the attendance of several high-ranking officials from the CAR government, the Head of Rwanda’s Diplomatic Mission in the Central African Republic, Mr. Olivier Kayumba, and members of the Rwandan community in the country.

The Presidential Medal of Appreciation highlights the crucial role played by RWABATT12 in stabilizing the Central African Republic and underscores the importance of international cooperation in peacekeeping efforts.
