Rwandan Appointed To Global Centre For Insects Research

A Rwandan scientist has been appointed to serve on the Committee of the General Council (GC) at the International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology.

Dr. Ignace Gatare who has been serving as the Principal of University of Rwanda’s College of Science and Technology is now a member of the International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology.

He becomes the 13th member on the prestigious GC committee.

Dr. Gatare also becomes the third African on this committee including Prof. James P. H. Kahindi (Kenya) Vice Chair, Programme Committee and Dr Segenet Kelemu (Ethiopia) Director General, Governing Council and Ex-officio Member.

This International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) aims at helping alleviate poverty, ensure food security.

The centre also seeks to improve the overall health status of peoples of the tropics, by developing and extending management tools and strategies for harmful and useful arthropods, while preserving the natural resource base through research and capacity building.

Meanwhile, the Centre’s vision is to pioneer global science in entomology, to improve the wellbeing and resilience of people and the environment to the challenges of a changing world, through innovative and applied research, alongside deep exploratory study, impact assessment, evaluation and sustainable capacity building.
