Rwanda Upholds Travel Benefits for Belgians, Displaying Diplomatic Decency

Despite severing diplomatic ties with Belgium, Rwanda has demonstrated diplomatic decency by maintaining key privileges for Belgian nationals, reinforcing its commitment to fair and principled international engagement.

Belgian citizens will continue to enjoy visa-free entry, receiving a 30-day visa on arrival at no cost, ensuring seamless travel for business and tourism.

Additionally, Belgian residents in Rwanda face no changes to their status, reflecting Rwanda’s decision to separate political differences from people-to-people relations.

While Rwanda has closed its embassy in Brussels, it has ensured continued consular support through its Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands. Rwandans in Belgium can access services via [email protected] or call +31 70 392 65 71.

By maintaining these benefits for Belgians despite the diplomatic fallout, Rwanda has set a high standard in international relations—acting with principle and fairness, while Belgium’s position appears rigid and politically motivated.

“like or not, the move not only preserves goodwill among Belgian visitors and residents but also underscores Rwanda’s confidence and strength in handling global diplomacy on its own terms,” says a political analyst in Kigali.
