Rwanda Switches To Electric Cars

Landlocked Rwanda has now made another first on the continent by unveiling a car purely powered by a rechargeable battery.

The e-golf today was rolled off from the assembly plant in Kigali officially entering the transport sector that has set new standards of completely keeping the environment safe from emissions.

A technical deal between Volkswagen and Siemens gave birth to this marvelous e-golf which will not be for sale but only used for mobility solutions. One can only pay for a ride or simply taxi.

Volkswagen operates a taxi service in Rwanda known as “Move Drive” – If you need a taxi operated by ‘Move Drive‘ it can be accessible through an App.

Volkswagen says it provides this Move Drive car sharing solution that gives its clients all the freedom and access of owning a car- “but only when you need it”

According to Micaëla Rugwizangonga the Volkswagen representative in Rwanda,  there is a fleet of Volkswagen vehicles accessible at designated stations around Kigali city.

“All you need to do is book a vehicle, drive and return it upon completion of your trip,” Micaëla Rugwizangonga says.
