The Rwanda Summer Golf currently taking place at Falcon Golf Club in Rwamagana district, Eastern Province is worth Rwf200million, the organisers said on Saturday after concluding Day-one of the event.
Dozens of golfers and hundreds of funs descended on the shores of Lake Muhazi, at Gati village in Gishari sector to participate in a series of activities including; cycling, canoeing, camping, kayaking and golfing.
“When they [organisers] explained everything, I was hesitant I insisted that they must observe the covid-19 measures. Today you are showing us that domestic tourism is possible and can be done locally,” Fred Mufulukye the Governor of Eastern Province said in his remarks at the end of Day-one of the event.
Mufulukye told revelers that he has officially launched domestic tourism activities in the 7 districts that make up the Eastern Province which he describes as “very beautiful” and has a lot of interesting attractions.
Golfers grouped in different categories spent almost half day teeing off on the course and were later awarded trophies.
Rwamagana Mayor Radjab Mbonyumuvunyi commended Taarifa and Falcon Golf Club for organizing this event and choosing to bring it in the district.
The event was possible through support from over 26 corporate companies and this directly benefited a total of 50 other companies, the local community and local producers and suppliers. For example all the food, meat, chicken, fish, and fruits have been locally sourced.
The Proprietor of Falcon Golf Club Innocent Rutamu presented a cheque to Gati cell executive secretary to pay for health insurance for 300 people in the area.
