Reports reaching Taarifa Cabo Delgabo desk confirm that Rwanda Defence Force has killed 30 Al shabaab terrorists in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
According to reliable details, on Tuesday the heavily armed RDF soldiers left early from Afungi – where they made base at the Total camp – to patrol a forest near Palma and encountered the insurgents in Quionga village.
“As insurgents retreated towards the Tanzanian border, a total of 30 were reportedly killed by Rwandan men. In the late afternoon, the RDF were still patrolling the forest areas around Afungi,” said the military analyst.
He also reported several insurgent attacks on civilians in the southwestern Muidumbe district, including the villages of Nampanha and Mandava, on Monday.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Mozambican security forces rescued, unharmed, the pilot of a light aircraft that was forced to land on the beach south of the coastal city of Mocímboa da Praia, occupied by rebels since August 2020.
The source said that the aircraft, presumably chartered by a private company that removed equipment from Afungi, had lost its propeller during the flight over Mocímboa da Praia. The pilot managed to slide the aircraft south of the city before landing.
Mozambique army tried to lift the aircraft, but failed and decided to destroy it. It is not clear what the aircraft was doing over Mocímboa da Praia. There is some speculation that it was doing photographic recon.
The source said that at dawn on Tuesday a Mozambican Army patrol launched an attack on the rebels in the village of Saba Saba, on the border between the districts of Mocímboa da Praia and Muidumbe.
Later on Tuesday, government forces also launched a mechanized attack against insurgents in the Mitope village in Mocímboa da Praia.
Some Rwandan forces have been deployed in the town of Nangade, in the district of Nangade, west of Palma.
